How I Work
I enjoy a wide range of processes for forming, glazing and firing. Texture pots are hand-built using the slab methods, with the surfaces created with rollers and stamps I have made of clay or found objects (seeds, pods, shells, string and so on). They are typically fired at cone 6 in an electric kiln, or in cone 10 gas reduction. I have made texture rollers and stamps, and combine these with natural objects (seed pods, shells, etc.) to create the surfaces. My wheelwork is mostly in stoneware and fired to Cone 10 in a reduction kiln. Most recently, I have begun combining wheel thrown forms with slab built textured elements. I have also been involved with wood-fire, and appreciate the warmth and unpredictable surface qualities it imparts.
